Q&A

What is lost wax casting?

Lost-wax casting is the process by which a duplicate metal sculpture is cast from an original sculpture- made from different forms of wax. It's a magical technique, with the oldest known example being a 6,000-year old amulet from the Indus Valley Civilization!!

What metals do you use?

I mainly use bronze and recycled silver but am more than happy to cast items in other metals- please get in touch to discuss if you want something in gold/other!

Can I commission an item?

Yes! I would love to discuss commissions- in whatever metal suits- if you drop me a message at [email protected] we can go from there. Please note commission turn around time could be up to 3 months, and pricing will depend on object size/detail and design amount.

Do you cast the metal yourself?

I learnt the entire casting process over Winter 2020, but on an incredibly small scale of one piece per casting in a small flask. It isn't financially or time viable at the moment for me to do it all myself, I design and carve the pieces myself from wax then send them to a lil foundry based in Staffordshire. I then de-sprue, polish and finish the pieces. The pieces I did work on doing the entire process are incredibly special to me, and not currently on sale, but maybe in future. I also know I definitely dream of the day where I can do the whole process myself!

Will my silver piece be hallmarked?

All silver over 7.78g will come hallmarked, from the London Assay Office, in accordance with hallmarking laws. I am also happy to hallmark any items under this weight, if requested- this just may add additional fees (approx £15) and time (1-2weeks) to the piece.

What is the difference between a one off and one not listed as one?

A one off is something completely individually carved and worked on, it may be a piece I was experimenting on, or just a solo thing completely at random. I sometimes mould my items to recreate multiples, so these aren't listed as 'one off's'.

When will I receive my item?

I aim to have orders sent out in the next 2-3 days after purchase, it depends where the piece is travelling to, but I offer trackable postage on all items. 'Special Delivery' is the safest method for UK postage as it offers compensation for all loss.

If you miss your post, it is your responsibility to organise redelivery with the courier. I am not responsible for this and I cannot remake and resend pieces in these instances.

If your parcel doesn’t arrive and delivery isn’t attempted 3 weeks after you are told it is sent, please get in contact and I can investigate. Starting a claim can be done after three months. Please let me know within this time.

Can I return an item?

If you wish to return or exchange an item, I will give 30 days and if you pay delivery costs to and from. Please read item descriptions before buying, and if comissioning something, make sure we are both clear on what's going down first! Sadly no exchange or refund on earrings due to hygiene laws.

Does it come with a chain?

Unless stated, sadly no, I am yet to source chains I like enough, and that are cost effective- it's super hard to find a lot of good quality chains at a reasonable price! Most shop items are individual pendants. I would recommend Ebay, markets or antique shops to find a good chain!

Why is bronze sold with an oxidation warning?

Just in case! Bronze does oxidise against skin/sweat/water after a while, but can be repolished! A simple mix of lemon and baking soda can polish bronze up a right treat.

Will my order get a customs charge?

Because of sad sad Brexit, European customers may now face import charges when they purchase from the UK. This fee will be dependent upon your home country, so please bear this in mind if you place an order. For all other countries you may be subject to customs charges, it's very hard for me to know on my end- I usually send things as 'large letters' and hope for the best. Unfortunately any customs charges cannot be covered by myself.
