Advent day 8- bellarmine jugs in bronze

£70.00

Inspired by fragments found washed up mudlarking. Also known as a Bartmann jug- these were salt-glazed stoneware vessels popular in 16-17c Europe.

They also found use as protection against dark magic as part of the preparation of a ‘witch’ to hide objects inside - hair, nail clippings, pins, wine, rosemary... The bottle could then be buried under walls, doors or in the fireplace to capture evil impaled on pins, and sent away by the other items inside!!

Individually carved from wax and cast in bronze- each is slightly different.

Please see image 5 before selecting jug, image 3 is a close up of jug 2.

Please note- bronze can occasionally oxidise against skin and leave a pale green mark.

Cleaning tips are included in all orders.

Chain not included.
